Observatory

The Observatory is the home page of Crow's Nest. It shows a visual overview of all data connections, widgets, and dashboards in your organization, helping you understand how data flows through the system.

What you see​

The Observatory displays your data connections grouped by type, with color-coded badges:

  • Green — Tulip connections
  • Amber — SQL connections
  • Sky blue — MQTT connections
  • Violet — Static connections

Related dashboards appear alongside the connections, showing which dashboards use widgets that pull from each connection.

  • Search — Type in the search box to filter connections by name.
  • Type filter — Click a connection type badge to show only that type.
  • Hide unused — Toggle to hide connections that aren't referenced by any widget.

Actions​

From the Observatory, you can:

  • Click a connection, widget, or dashboard name to navigate to its detail page.
  • Click New Dashboard or New Widget to create new artifacts directly.

When to use it​

The Observatory is most useful when you want to:

  • Understand which data sources your organization is using
  • Find connections that aren't attached to any widget
  • See the relationship between connections, widgets, and dashboards at a glance
