Invite a User and Assign Roles
Add a new person to your Crow's Nest organization and configure their access.
Required role: Admin
Steps
1. Open Organization Settings
Go to Organization Settings → Users tab.
2. Send an invitation
- Click Invite User.
- Enter the person's email address.
- Select a role:
- Admin — Full access to everything, including org settings
- Member — Can create and edit their own artifacts, limited to assigned configs
- View-Only — Can only view dashboards and widgets, cannot edit anything
- Click Send Invite.
The person receives an email invitation. They appear in Pending Invitations until they accept.
3. Grant config access (for Members)
After the user accepts and joins, grant them access to the data source configs they need:
- Find the user in the Users tab.
- Check the configs they should be able to use.
- Save.
Without config access, a member will see an empty platform with no connections, widgets, or dashboards.
4. Verify
Ask the new user to sign in and confirm they can see the expected data connections and dashboards.
Tips
- For stakeholders who only need to view reports, use the View-Only role to prevent accidental changes.
- Grant the minimum configs a member needs. You can always add more later.
- If a user doesn't receive the invitation email, check their spam folder or resend the invitation from the pending invitations list.
