Troubleshooting: Permissions and Access Issues

Can't see the Admin page

Cause: You don't have the Admin role.

What to do: Only Admin users can access Organization Settings. Ask an existing admin to change your role in the Users tab.

Missing data connections, widgets, or dashboards

Cause: Your account doesn't have access to the data source configs those artifacts depend on. Crow's Nest uses cascading access — if you can't access a config, you can't see the connections, widgets, or dashboards that use it.

What to do: Ask your admin to grant you access to the relevant data source configs in Organization Settings → Users.

"View-only" and can't edit anything

Cause: Your account has the View-Only role.

What to do: View-only users can browse dashboards and widgets but cannot create, edit, or delete. If you need edit access, ask an admin to upgrade your role to Member or Admin.

Can't create a data connection

Probable causes:

  • You're a view-only user.
  • No data source configs are accessible to you.

What to do:

  1. If you're view-only, ask for a role upgrade.
  2. If you're a member, ask your admin to grant you access to at least one data source config.

Invited user can't sign in

Probable causes:

  • The invitation email went to spam.
  • The user is trying to sign in before accepting the invitation.

What to do:

  1. Check the spam folder.
  2. Resend the invitation from Organization Settings → Users → Pending Invitations.
  3. Make sure the user clicks the invitation link first, then creates an account if needed.

User sees empty platform after joining

Cause: The user is a Member but hasn't been granted access to any data source configs.

What to do: The admin needs to go to Organization Settings → Users and check the configs the new member should access. See Config Access.
